Before I get into anything I want to wish my baby brother a very happy birthday. No matter the age, he will always be my baby brother, and somehow today he is celebrating his 30th birthday. Happy Birthday!!!! Can’t wait to celebrate with you, soon!!!!
I am not sure how, but somehow I got really lucky two days in a row and got to enjoy wonderful meals at some of my favorite restaurants in town. First last night I met up with friends for drinks and dinner at the Red, The Steakhouse. Need I say anything more! It’s no secret that I worship Red and everything chef Peter makes. I’ve been there numerous times, and I have yet to have a bad meal, it’s almost impossible.
Dinner started of with the Red House salad – mixed greens, goat cheese, pecans and raspberry vinaigrette. No picture as I inhaled it!!!
I also enjoyed dipping the home made bread in the parmesan olive oil mixture – so yummy….
Yup, I emptied that bread basket!
And than the best part of the dinner – 5oz fillet. I think I am still dreaming about it!
We shared a bottle of cab, a very nice bottle of cab – no better combo than filet and cab, perfect match!
And ended with a sweet surprise of cannoli with nutella and ricotta. The filling was amazing, but the shell had a bit too much cinnamon for my taste.
For a Monday night, it was a fantastic night – amazing food, fabulous company, just what a doctor ordered. The night at the Red alone would have been a great treat for this week, and than out of nowhere I was invited to a lunch today at my other favorite place – Salumeria 104, an Italian style trattoria. When I walk in there I feel like I have walked into a neighborhood restaurant where everyone knows your name, well, at least chef Angelo does.
I usually have the prosciutto-mozzarella sandwich, but today I decided to change things a bit, and had the chef’s special “Octopus Salad” with potatoes, celery, tomatoes, olives and lemon vinaigrette – simple and delicious.
Followed by “gnocchi alla romana” – house made semolina gnocchi, with Parmesan cheese and crispy prosciutto. I really wish I were hungrier, because it was so tasty, and if it were only 60F and not 90F – this would have been perfect for the ski slope lunch!
Dessert was truly cherry at the end – the best, lightest pound cake I have ever had. I think I will be going back just for that again.
And of course one thing all my Italians love to make fun of me for – cappuccino after lunch/dinner. I guess it’s unheard of in Italy to have a cappuccino any time after breakfast, especially after lunch (yes it makes sense with the whole milk issue after eating all the protein, etc….), for them it’s espresso time.
Lucky, right! It’s been nice to get out of the house and share a meal with people who care, to be surrounded by laughter and good times, it almost makes me forget the bad….Maybe I should do it more often!
