It’s been an emotional week to say the least. I found myself extra sensitive about everything, trying to make sense of all the losses. I haven’t made any sense of it yet... Despite a heavy heart, I can’t help but be inspired by all the good that there is out there. The selfless people helping in a time of need. Generosity and love witnessed by many is a beautiful thing. Sometimes I don’t always see the good, but I know it's there. I have to believe that it's there. Because love and goodness must prevail.
In these unsettled times I seek comfort, most often for me that comfort comes in a form of food....food that gives a feeling beyond fullness - a measure of joy.... a feeling of goodness.
Seeking comfort in food isn’t as bad as magazines make it out to be. Food brings us all together and make us more aware of the simple moments in life. Sometimes, it's french fries, or apple pie or bread pudding. Other days, it’s a big pile of veggies and quinoa. In a wake of everything that has happened this week, I turned to veggies.
I cooked and cooked and cooked with no direction or inspiration but rather to satisfy the need of feeling good. I was seeking comfort in most unusual places, and in a process of self-fulfillment I discovered that Kiki is a huge fan of tomatoes. See, seeking comfort in food is not always as bad as it's made out to be. You can only imagine that we had tomatoes with every meal since then!
